Cataract Surgery Information - Lens Implant Surgery

SocialTwist Tell-a-Friend

An intraocular lens (IOL) is a lens implanted in the eye used to treat cataracts or myopia. The most common type of IOL for cataract treatment are known as pseudophakic IOLs which work by replacing the crystalline lens which has been clouded over by cataracts. The second type of IOL, more commonly known as a phakic intraocular lens (PIOL), is a lens which is placed over the existing natural lens used in refractive surgery to change the eye's optical power as a treatment for myopia or nearsightedness

Cataract Surgery

Cataract surgery is the most common surgical procedure performed in the United States, with over 3 million cataract removals each year. Most people are expected to develop a cataract as they age. You may not notice a difference in your vision as the progression of cataracts is very slow, but your vision may seem cloudy, like looking through a foggy window. If you think you may have a cataract, please review the cataract pages of our website and contact us to schedule a consultation.

Our Cataract Surgery Patients Say:

lasik irvine
"Dear Harvard Eye, Thank you so much for my 'new eyes'!! The clarity, color and brightness after my cataract surgery is unbelievable! It is hard to describe to people the positive difference in my life. My friend asked me if it is like upgrading to HD TV from standard TV. I said, no, 'it's much more like changing from old black and white TV to beautiful color, HD television!!' Again, my sincere thanks."
